Job description
We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to develop and deliver effective, evidence-based interventions to support students with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN). As part of a transdisciplinary team, you will play a key role in integrating speech and language therapy into the school’s curriculum, helping students access the full range of educational opportunities. You will collaborate closely with teaching and therapy staff to support the individual needs of students and contribute to their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct speech and language therapy to students (1:1, paired or small group sessions), addressing their individual SLCN goals.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to differentiate learning tasks and support students with varying levels of SLCN.
- Contribute to the assessment of students’ communication needs for EHCP reviews.
- Work alongside the Occupational Therapist and other specialist staff to support holistic student development.
- Support the planning and delivery of a neurodiversity-affirming social skills curriculum, fostering self-advocacy and personal development.
- Implement and evaluate communication programs, both individual and group-based, in line with student needs and EHCP requirements.
- Identify resource needs and liaise with the Lead Therapist for appropriate materials.
- Assist in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
- Monitor and assess therapy effectiveness through appropriate outcome measures and adjust therapy plans as needed.
- Provide advice to parents/carers on how to generalise therapy goals in other environments.
- Maintain accurate clinical records in accordance with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) standards.
- Engage in supervision, continuing professional development (CPD), and participate in regular appraisals.
- Ensure that the learning environment is appropriately resourced to support students’ independence and learning.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of research, clinical practice, and policy changes that impact speech and language therapy.
- Follow school policies and procedures, including mandatory training and health and safety requirements.
Essential Qualifications:
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy (RCSLT and HCPC registered).
Knowledge & Experience:
Essential:
- Knowledge of assessment tools and interventions for children and young people with developmental speech and language difficulties.
- Ability to manage a caseload and deliver therapy effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience of working with children with a range of SLCN and delivering training to staff and families.
- Understanding of safeguarding policies and practices.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), including autism.
- Familiarity with the legal and educational frameworks that impact clinical practice.
- Experience working in educational settings.
Skills & Competencies:
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload effectively.
- Ability to communicate complex information in a clear and accessible manner.

Hours: 22.5 hours per week (Term Time Only, 39 weeks per year)
